Taraba Govt Orders Boarding Students Home Over Rising Security Threats

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has directed all public and private secondary schools to immediately send their boarding students home following heightened security concerns across the country, Ondopress reports.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin.

According to the statement, the rising wave of insecurity nationwide has placed boarding students in both private and public schools at increased risk of bandit attacks.

It cited the recent abductions of students in Kebbi and Niger states as clear indicators of the growing threat.

Dr. Godwin noted that, based on the prevailing security situation, the governor has ordered all secondary schools to operate strictly as day schools until further notice.

School principals and proprietors have been instructed to promptly comply by deboarding all students without delay.

She stressed that the decision is a proactive measure aimed at protecting students’ lives and preventing potential security incidents linked to the ongoing unrest in the region.

The Taraba State Government reassured parents of its commitment to restoring normalcy, adding that it will continue to work closely with security agencies to address the situation. School authorities have also been urged to fully adhere to the directive and strengthen security within their Premises.
