BREAKING: Food Prices Drop Across Nigeria
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a reduction in the prices of major food items across the country, including rice, beans, garri, tomatoes and onions, in November 2025.
The data was contained in the bureau’s Selected Food Prices Watch report for November 2025, which was released in Abuja on Monday. The latest report showed that although food prices remain relatively high, several staple items recorded noticeable year-on-year and month-on-month reductions, offering slight relief to Nigerian households amid prevailing economic pressures.
According to the NBS, the average price of 1kg of local rice fell by 5.00 per cent year-on-year to ₦1,861.95 in November 2025.
“On a month-on-month basis, the price of rice also decreased by 2.71 per cent from ₦1,913.78 recorded in October 2025,” the report stated.
A state-level analysis showed wide price variations across the country, with Kogi State recording the highest average price of rice at ₦2,159.99, while Bauchi State recorded the lowest price at ₦1,237.81.

By geopolitical zones, the North-Central recorded the highest average rice price at ₦2,019.45, while the North-East posted the lowest at ₦1,608.54.
The report further revealed a significant decline in the price of brown beans, a key protein source for many Nigerian households.
The average price of 1kg of brown beans dropped by 43.14 per cent year-on-year to ₦1,547.03 in November 2025.
“On a month-on-month basis, the price also fell by 12.13 per cent from ₦1,760.53 recorded in October 2025,” the NBS said.
At the state level, Imo State recorded the highest average price of brown beans at ₦2,174.39, while Adamawa State recorded the lowest at ₦725.
Zonal analysis showed that the South-East and South-South recorded the highest average prices for brown beans, while the North-East recorded the lowest average price at ₦982.79.
Similarly, the price of white garri also declined during the period under review.
The NBS said the average price of 1kg of white garri fell by 32.00 per cent year-on-year to ₦819.70 in November 2025.
“Also on a month-on-month basis, the price decreased by 3.19 per cent from ₦846.69 recorded in October 2025,” the report noted.
A breakdown by states showed that Bayelsa State recorded the highest price of white garri at ₦1,164.28, while Plateau State posted the lowest at ₦487.31.
By zone, the South-East recorded the highest average price of white garri, while the North-Central recorded the lowest at ₦626.36.
The NBS also explained that prices of fresh vegetables also declined during the month.
The average price of 1kg of tomatoes dropped by 15.57 per cent year-on-year to ₦1,243.02 in November 2025.
“On a month-on-month basis, 1kg of tomatoes decreased by 2.06 per cent from ₦1,269.17 recorded in October 2025,” the bureau said.
At the state level, Imo State recorded the highest tomato price at ₦2,010.70, while Plateau State posted the lowest at ₦684.38.
Zonal figures showed that the South-East and South-South recorded the highest average tomato prices, while the North-West recorded the lowest.
The NBS stated that the average price of 1kg of onions fell by 29.03 per cent year-on-year to ₦1,332.77 in November 2025.
“On a month-on-month basis, 1kg of onions decreased by 2.60 per cent from ₦1,368.32 recorded in October 2025,” it added.
Abia State recorded the highest onion price at ₦2,300.76, while Kwara State recorded the lowest at ₦826.56.
Palm Oil Price Trend
However, the report noted that palm oil prices moved in a different direction.
The average price of one litre of palm oil increased by 1.70 per cent year-on-year to ₦2,508.73 in November 2025.
“On a month-on-month basis, it decreased by 1.70 per cent from ₦2,537.90 recorded in October 2025,” the NBS said.
State-level data showed that Enugu State recorded the highest palm oil price at ₦2,508.73, while Taraba State recorded the lowest at ₦2,050.
Naija News recalls that President Bola Tinubu, in September 2025, ordered measures aimed at reducing food prices nationwide, following concerns over the rising cost of living and food inflation.
The latest NBS report suggests that some of these measures may be contributing to the modest easing in prices recorded across several staple food items.
Recall that prices of goods, including foodstuffs and transportation, increased following the removal of subsidy on petroleum by President Bola Tinubu in2023, a decision he said was necessary to save the economy of Nigeria.
