National Opposition Movement Protest Over Electronic Transmission & Tax Reform
Day two of protests continued at the National Assembly by a coalition of civil society groups, youth organisations, and pro-democracy activists under the banner National Opposition Movement.
The demonstration targets the electronic transmission clause in the proposed Electoral Act amendment and the implementation of a new tax law.
Among the protesters, a former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung wanted the Senate’s position on electronic transmission of election results be amended.
The group insists that failure to clearly provide for electronic transmission could undermine the credibility of future elections.
Protesters also cited worsening economic hardship, which they attribute to the new tax reform law.
