Grammy Award-winning South African DJ and producer Black Coffee has taken legal action against Maserati South Africa, alleging that the luxury car brand failed to deliver a customised vehicle worth R9 million within the agreed timeframe, according to the Sunday Times.

Court papers filed in the Johannesburg High Court through his company, Soulistic Music, show that the musician whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo claims the dealership missed a mutually agreed delivery deadline of July 2025 for a customised Maserati MC20 Cielo. He is now seeking to cancel the deal and recover his trade-in vehicle or its equivalent value.

Maphumulo alleges that the agreement involved trading in his previous Maserati, valued at R7 million, with the remaining R2 million to be paid upon delivery of the new vehicle. However, he claims the dealership later informed him that the car would only be sent for production in August 2025, with no confirmed delivery date.

The DJ argues that this constituted a breach of the agreement, prompting him to cancel the order and demand the return of his traded-in vehicle or compensation. He further claims the dealership has failed or refused to refund the amount despite repeated requests.

Maserati SA has denied the allegations, stating that no July 2025 delivery date was agreed upon.

The company maintains that customised vehicles typically require at least nine months to produce after specifications are confirmed.

Furthermore, it argues that Maphumulo had not finalised all the necessary customisation details for the car.

The dispute is expected to be settled in court as both parties contest the terms of the agreement.See more, details. .
