Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disclosed that security forces had prior intelligence about the terrorist attack on the 15 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, Kaga LGA, three days before it happened.

Zulum made this known during a sympathy visit to the community after the early Friday a§§ault that killed the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.O. Braimoh, alongside several soldiers and civilians.

Describing the incident as shocking, the governor condemned the attack and called for an urgent overhaul of security strategies. “This is one of the most surprising attacks I’ve witnessed in recent times,” he said.

“Credible intelligence had been available for about three days. There is a need to reassess our security architecture.” His remarks have raised concerns over how the attackers successfully struck despite advance warnings.

When questioned, the local government chairman confirmed that intelligence reports had indeed been received, highlighting a major lapse. Benisheikh, a key town along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway, remains a strategic military hub in the fight against Boko Haram.

Though security has improved in recent years, sporadic attacks continue to expose the resilience of insurgents in the North-east. Zulum stressed the need for better intelligence coordination, vigilance, and proactive measures to protect both military bases and civilians.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s support for security agencies and local vigilantes. “We will continue to support the Armed Forces and strengthen community resilience to ensure Benisheikh does not fall into the hands of Boko Haram,” he said.
