BREAKING: Lassa Fever Outbreak Worsens, 146 Dead, Doctors Also Affected
Nigeria’s Lassa fever outbreak has escalated, recording 146 deaths within 11 weeks and 582 confirmed cases across the country. The virus has also spread to healthcare workers, with 25 doctors infected and 3 fatalities reported.
Health officials say the disease is transmitted mainly through contact with food or surfaces contaminated by infected rats, and can also spread between humans in medical environments. It typically starts with fever but can quickly progress to severe illness if not treated early.
Authorities are urging Nigerians to maintain hygiene, secure food properly, block rodent entry points in homes, wash hands regularly, and seek prompt medical attention for persistent fever instead of self medication.Continue Your, Reading. .
