Commissioner of Police Orders Investigation into Stampede at Ikere-Ekiti Hotel That Claimed Three Lives

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a thorough investigation into a fatal stampede at Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, which claimed the lives of a hotel staff member and two students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI).

According to a press release issued on Saturday, April 19, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on April 19, 2026.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the students had moved to the hotel for a party after their convocation on April 18, 2026.

During the party, which lasted till the early hours of the following day, two yet-to-be-identified students had an argument that degenerated into a fight.

Other guests reportedly ran out of the hotel premises in panic, resulting in a stampede that led to the death of three persons. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police sympathized with the relatives and friends of the victims and called for calm, assuring the public that no stone would be left unturned in the investigation.
