Mali Hit by Major Blow as Defence Minister Killed in Kati Attack
Mali’s Defence Minister, Sadio Camara, has been killed following a deadly suicide car bomb attack on his residence in Kati, a heavily fortified military stronghold near Bamako.
The attack, which occurred on April 25, forms part of coordinated assaults across multiple regions led by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and allied insurgent factions.
According to family members and security sources, the explosion destroyed the residence and killed Camara alongside his wife and two grandchildren.
Camara was a central pillar of the ruling junta and a close ally of Assimi Goïta. He played a key role in the 2020 and 2021 coups and was instrumental in strengthening Mali’s military cooperation with Russia-linked forces.Continue Your, Reading. .
