BREAKING: Boko Haram Attack on Borno Army Base Leaves Eight Soldiers Dead, Several Others Injured
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State, killing at least eight soldiers and injuring several others.
According to military sources, the attack occurred around 4 a.m. on Friday during heavy rainfall, when the terrorists allegedly stormed the position of the 162 Battalion.
A source at the base said, “They attacked us at 4 a.m. today when it was raining. Eight soldiers were killed in action.”
Another military source claimed the attackers overran parts of the facility and carried out a brutal aasault on troops stationed there, alleging that the slain soldiers were beheaded while several others sustained injuries.
The insurgents were said to have arrived in large numbers, reportedly taking advantage of the poor weather conditions to launch the surprise attack.
Following the incident, security sources said reinforcement troops had been deployed to the area, while efforts were ongoing to determine the full extent of casualties and assess the damage to the military position.
The attack comes amid renewed as+a¥lts by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters on military formations across Nigeria’s North-East region, despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations by the military. Recent weeks have seen continued clashes between troops and insurgents in parts of Borno State.
As of the time of reporting, the Nigerian military had not issued an official statement on the incident.
