BREAKING: Panel Accuses Suspended Niger NSCDC Commandant, Four Officers of Misconduct Over 33 Detainee Deaths
An independent ministerial committee has accused suspended Niger State NSCDC Commandant Suberu Aniviye and four other officers of misconduct over the deaths of detainees in custody.
The panel cited alleged unlawful detention, failure to respond to distress calls, poor supervision and the alteration of the detention facility before forensic investigations.
It also identified systemic failures, including overcrowding, poor record-keeping, lack of CCTV monitoring and inadequate emergency medical services.
The report further revealed that 30 of the 33 deceased detainees had been buried before post-mortem examinations could be conducted.
Committee chairman Jonathan Kure presented the report to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Abuja on Tuesday.
