Federal High Court Fixes December 8 for Hearing of Nnamdi Kanu’s Transfer Request
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed December 8, 2025, for the hearing of an ex parte application filed by the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his immediate transfer from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The application, brought before the court on Thursday, follows concerns raised by Kanu’s legal team over his continued detention in Sokoto, arguing that his current location poses security, health, and fair-trial risks.
The presiding judge is expected to consider the urgency of the request and determine whether Kanu should be moved to a correctional facility within Abuja pending the continuation of his trial.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Nigerian government since his controversial transfer from Kenya in 2021 and was later sentenced to life imprisonment. His lawyers continue to contend that his incarceration conditions violate his fundamental rights, insisting that the Federal Government has refused to comply with previous court directives for improved welfare and access.
The December 8 hearing is expected to set the tone for renewed legal battles surrounding his case as supporters continue to demand his relocation and eventual release.
