BREAKING NEWS: FG Unveils Plans to Establish CNG Hub in Katsina

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) hub along the Funtua–Gusau axis, as part of efforts to expand alternative energy infrastructure and promote cleaner transportation across northern Nigeria.

The disclosure was made by the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), Barr. @IsmaeelAhmedB, during a courtesy visit to Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, at the Government House, Katsina.

The proposed hub is expected to serve as a strategic facility providing CNG refuelling, electric vehicle charging, and vehicle conversion services, targeting commercial and private transport operators along the busy economic corridor linking Katsina, Zamfara, and adjoining states.

To accelerate implementation, the Governor urged the PiCNG delegation to submit a formal request detailing the land requirements for the hub, assuring of prompt government action upon receipt.

He highlighted ongoing reforms in the state’s transport sector, including the procurement of 30 luxury and intercity buses, some of which have already been converted to operate on CNG through a partnership with Greenville. He also noted the introduction of hybrid vehicles as part of efforts to align with global energy transition trends.

Governor Radda further disclosed that the state has approved the procurement of 3,000 electric vehicles and motorcycles for rural teachers, as well as 1,500 electric tricycles, aimed at enhancing mobility, reducing transportation costs, and creating economic opportunities for residents.

Barrister Ahmad also revealed that the initiative will soon commence the establishment of vehicle conversion centres in the state and train about 500 youths as CNG technicians to support the growing adoption of alternative fuel vehicles.
