Police Intercept Suspect With 100 Rounds Of Ammunition At Zamfara–Katsina Border

Operatives have intercepted a suspect in possession of 100 rounds of live ammunition along the Zamfara–Katsina border in a move to curb the proliferation of illegal arms.

The arrest was made at about 7:20 a.m. on April 17, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at a checkpoint in the Yankara axis, following credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Umar Sani, 30, from Magami village in Gusau Local Government Area, was apprehended while riding a motorcycle from Abuja to his hometown.

A search of the motorcycle led to the discovery of 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition for AK-47 rifles concealed inside the fuel tank.

Authorities said the suspect is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and identify other members of the suspected network.
