JUST-IN: Communal Clash in Zamfara Leaves Several Injured, Suspected Ring Leaders on the Run

A communal clash between youths of Tungar Kanwa and Gajarawa villages in Morai District, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has left several persons injured, while seven suspects are currently at large.

Security sources said the violence broke out on June 4 at about 1030 hours before escalating into a wider confrontation between the two communities.

According to the sources, armed personnel were deployed to the scene following distress information received at about 1300 hours, after which calm was restored in the affected area.

Victims from Gajarawa Village identified as Hakimi Tambaya, 58; Umaru Abdullahi, 22; Uzairu Aliyu, 20; Usama Aliyu, 22; Junaidu Umaru, 20; and Kabiru Abdullahi, 20, sustained varying degrees of injuries during the clash.

From Tungar Kanwa Village, Abdurahman Abubakar, 25, and Kabiru Abu-Babba, 42, were also injured.

All injured persons were evacuated to General Hospital Kagara for medical attention, while three critically injured victims were referred to Orthopedic Hospital Wamakko for specialised treatment.

Security sources further identified seven individuals alleged to be the masterminds of the violence, who are currently on the run. The suspects include Shiitu Abubakar, Ibrahim Sanda, Abu Rigima, Dan Shehu Hakimi, Anas Buba Kungiya, Hassan Dandago and Nura Kwaimo, all from Tungar Kanwa Village.

Authorities confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in the affected communities, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent a recurrence.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace in the area.
