NSIB Recovers Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), Flight Data Recorder (FDR) From Aircraft Involved In Asaba Roadway Landing Accident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) from the Bombardier Challenger CL-601 aircraft involved in an emergency landing near Asaba, Delta State.Full Details. .

The development comes a day after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) grounded the aircraft and suspended the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight over alleged regulatory violations following the incident.

According to preliminary reports, the privately operated aircraft, registered as N989BC and operated by VMO Aero Limited, carried out a missed approach at about 7:43 local time while attempting to land in Asaba before landing on a roadway in the Ogwashi-Uku area.

In a fresh update, the NSIB says it immediately deployed an investigative team to the site and has successfully retrieved and secured the aircraft’s Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder for detailed analysis.

The Bureau says in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, investigators are also reviewing operational, maintenance and air traffic control records as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.

Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr, says the swift recovery of the flight recorders marks a critical step in establishing the facts of the incident, adding that the Bureau remains committed to advancing aviation safety in Nigeria.

The NSIB says the investigation will focus on identifying the circumstances and contributing factors to the occurrence and making safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
