U.S. Trade and Development Agency, (USTDA) Backs LNG Study To Power Northern Nigeria
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency, USTDA, reiterates it’s support to the deployment of American liquefied natural gas technology to improve energy access in northern Nigeria.
A statement from the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, USTDA announces the approval of a grant to Nigerian energy company, Powergas Nigeria Limited, to fund a feasibility study for a small-scale LNG plant in southern Nigeria.
It further adds that the plant will produce LNG for delivery to northern Nigeria’s industrial hubs and remote communities through “virtual pipeline” trucks to deliver gas to industries. This targets areas without access to gas pipelines.
USTDA Deputy Director, Thomas Hardy, says the project will address critical energy security needs and also create new opportunities for U.S. companies in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Powergas Head of Strategy, Abiodun Oseni, says LNG is the company’s next frontier to deliver cleaner, reliable energy across Nigeria, and that U.S. support will help accelerate the project.
The feasibility study will assess the technical and financial plans and identify U.S. suppliers for equipment and engineering services.
