Edo State: Police And Traffic Wardens Clash in Viral Street Fight

Imagine traffic wardens and police officers getting into a physical fight, then one of the officers pulling out a rifle and firing into the air.

That is exactly what Nigerians saw in a viral video from Edo state, Nigeria, where EDSTMA officials and IRT operatives were caught in a heated confrontation, pulling at each other’s clothes and arguing in the middle of the chaos.

The video quickly spread online on Wednesday, September 9, forcing the Edo Police Command to step in and investigate what actually happened.

The Commissioner of Police has already met representatives of both sides and ordered a thorough probe, while the officer seen firing the rifle has been referred for disciplinary review.

These are people expected to control situations when ordinary citizens lose their tempers, yet here they were giving everyone a free demonstration of what happens when the people in uniform also lose theirs.

Police say anyone found culpable will be sanctioned and that agencies must work together with mutual respect, which sounds reasonable, especially after Nigerians have watched the supposed peacekeepers turn a roadside confrontation into something that looked painfully close to a uniformed showdown.
