Nigeria Cannot Keep Calling Children the Future While Failing to Protect Them
A society can measure its future by how it treats its children, yet too often the smallest voices are expected to survive the biggest cruelties.
That painful reality has once again sparked outrage in Nigeria after writer Charles Ogbu called on the government to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children following a disturbing incident in Umuahia, Abia State.
Reacting in a Facebook post on Monday, July 6, 2026, Ogbu referred to a video showing a woman allegedly assaulting a young girl and attempting to cut her throat with a knife.
The incident reportedly happened at IBB Estate in Umuahia. In the video, the girl, who is said to be a domestic worker, can be seen desperately shielding her neck while crying and pleading as the woman continued the attack.Tap To Read Complete, Details. .
