Fire Breaks Out Inside Johannesburg CBD Building Before Sunrise, Firefighters Fight to Contain Blaze While Officials Launch Investigation
Emergency Management Services firefighters responded to a fire incident at the corner of Mooi and Kerk streets in the Johannesburg CBD on Friday morning. The fire was reported shortly before 6:00 a.m.
According to Johannesburg EMS Media Liaison Officer Xolile Khumalo, there are no confirmed reports of injuries. The fire started on the second floor of the building and has since been contained.
Firefighters remain on scene conducting overhaul operations and monitoring for hotspots.
EMS Inspectors are on scene and will commence investigations as soon as all fire operations are concluded. Khumalo urged residents of Johannesburg to remain cautious when using electrical appliances and follow general safety precautions while authorities continue their work at the scene following the contained fire on Friday morning in the city centre area as investigations
