Fallen Anti-Gang Officer Thapelo Tlometsane Laid to Rest as SAPS Honours His Sacrifice After Reiger Park Ambush

The funeral service of Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit Constable Thapelo Kleinbooi Tlometsane is underway in Zebediela, where family, colleagues, community members and dignitaries have gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen officer.

The service is being officiated by Deputy Minister of Police Dr Polly Boshielo and Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane.

Tlometsane was killed in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, on Friday, 7 August 2026, when he and fellow Anti-Gang Unit Constable Siphiwe Sibeko were ambushed and killed while conducting patrol duties.

According to the SAPS, the officers were responding to reports of gunshots when they came under a hail of bullets. Sibeko was laid to rest on Saturday, while Tlometsane’s funeral is taking place today.

The SAPS has described both officers as having paid the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out their constitutional mandate to protect and serve the people of South Africa. Tlometsane is being remembered for his commitment, courage and dedication to policing.

His funeral forms part of the SAPS tribute to the two officers, whose deaths have renewed calls within the police service to intensify the fight against crime.
