JUST-IN: ADC Blasts INEC Over Court Ruling Interpretation, Alleges Government Pressure
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of acting under pressure from a government it claims is threatened by the opposition’s growing momentum.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that the current administration is attempting to suppress opposition voices and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.
ADC described INEC’s position as “contradictory” and “inconsistent with facts,” insisting that it would soon publicly address what it called clear discrepancies in the commission’s interpretation.
The party further warned that INEC’s stance signals that it has “caved to pressure” and is now siding with the government against Nigerians.
“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum, even in the face of its relentless assault on all opposition parties,” the statement read.
“INEC’s press statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason. We shall clarify these contradictions for all to see. What is clear, however, is that INEC has chosen to side with the government against the Nigerian people.”
The party stated that it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next steps in due course.
ADC also called on its members and the general public to remain calm and steadfast as the situation develops.
