Doctor Dies After being beaten by a patient’s relative in Delta State

A House Officer at Central Hospital Warri has died after collapsing and being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, months after he was brutally attacked while on duty.

The deceased doctor, Dr. Ogbomade Samson Romani, was confirmed dead in the early hours of yesterday after initially slumping earlier this week.

Dr. Samson, a graduate of Niger Delta University, had reportedly been battling lingering health complications since February when he was attacked by hoodlums allegedly arranged by a patient’s relative.

According to reports, the young doctor was beaten for nearly 20 minutes, with the first five minutes of the a§§ault taking place at the hospital gate while security personnel were slow to respond.

He sustained severe facial and abdominal inj¥ries and had since struggled with recurring illness. Despite the attack, his alleged assailants were never arrested.

Colleagues disclosed that Dr. Samson had excused himself from a meeting earlier this week after feeling unwell. While heading to the hostel to rest, he reportedly slumped and collapsed, prompting his emergency admission into the ICU.

He later passed away, leaving colleagues and the medical community in shock. Dr. Samson was described by fellow doctors as hardworking, respectful, and deeply committed to his duties. Reports also indicate that he was laid to rest shortly after his passing.

His d+ath marks the second loss of a medical doctor linked to the Niger Delta University community within the same week, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in public hospitals.
