U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has raised alarm over escalating violence in Nigeria, claiming that “more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world,” and alleging that “Islamic jihadists have murdered more than 50,000 Christians” since 2009 while destroying thousands of churches and institutions.

Speaking during a policy discussion, Cruz further accused Nigerian authorities of enabling the crisis, stating that “Nigerian officials have been, unfortunately, complicit in facilitating these atrocities,” while also criticizing both state-level Sharia and blasphemy laws and what he described as federal inaction.

The senator referenced his proposed Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act, which seeks to place Nigeria back on the Country of Particular Concern (CPC) list and impose sanctions on officials linked to enforcing such laws. According to him, “the U.S. government knows who they are… and they should be held accountable.”

Cruz also revealed that he previously met with Nigerian defense officials who pledged to curb the violence, but said, “those results have yet to materialize.”

Citing past U.S. actions, he noted that President Donald Trump had added Nigeria to the CPC list and authorized military action against Islamic state-linked militants, actions he described as necessary.

He questioned current conditions, warning that “jihadists have been targeting Christians in Nigeria at levels not seen for many years,” and called for stronger U.S. intervention to address the ongoing crisis.Continue Your, Reading.
