Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer During Intelligence-Driven Operation Shanela II After Discovering Mandrax, Tik and Cash Believed to Have Been Made From Drug Sales

The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a male suspect during an intelligence-driven Operation Shanela II raid at a residence in Rugby Street, Komaggas, on Friday, 3 July 2026.

Police allegedly found mandrax tablets, tik and cash believed to be linked to illegal drug dealing. The suspect is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court.

The operation was carried out by members of the Namakwa District Task Team, Namakwa Detectives and the Springbok K9 Unit.

Officers executed a search-and-seizure operation at the property, tactically secured the premises and informed the occupant of the purpose of the search before conducting a thorough inspection.

During the search, police discovered and seized quantities of mandrax tablets and tik, which are suspected to have been intended for distribution.

Officers also confiscated cash believed to be the proceeds of illicit drug dealing.

The suspect was arrested on charges relating to the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Namakwa District Commissioner Brigadier Schalk Andrews commended the members involved for their commitment to disrupting the illegal drug trade.

He also encouraged community members to remain vigilant and continue working with SAPS by reporting criminal activities to help eradicate drugs from local communities.
