BREAKING: ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike
Nasarawa State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a comprehensive and indefinite strike.
The announcement of the total strike was contained in a statement by the Chairperson of ASUU, NSUK Branch, Zubairu Loko, after the conclusion of the union’s meeting on Monday.
The union attributed the industrial action to what it described as the continued non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues affecting academic staff of the university.
It lamented that it had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with relevant authorities without achieving satisfactory implementation of the agreement or resolving the outstanding local issues.
“The decision was taken at the Branch Congress held today following the continued non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement and other unresolved local issues affecting academic staff of the University.
“The Branch had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with the relevant authorities without securing satisfactory implementation of the agreements and resolution of the outstanding issues,” the statement said.
The union stated that it had earlier sought and obtained approval from the National Executive Council, NEC, of ASUU before proceeding with the industrial action.
It also pointed out the rationale for the strike, stressing that agreements freely reached by the parties must be respected, implemented and honoured.
