Ondo Government Inspects Construction of 216-Bed NYSC Hostels in Ikare-Akoko
Construction of new male and female hostels at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, is progressing as the state government moves to improve accommodation and other facilities for corps members.
The project, which will provide a combined 216-bed capacity, was approved by the Ondo State Executive Council in October 2025 under the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The hostel development is part of efforts to improve facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp and provide better accommodation for corps members posted to Ondo State.
Construction Work Ongoing
The hostel construction is currently ongoing at the Ikare-Akoko camp.
According to the project update, work is also being carried out on other basic facilities within the camp, including the provision of street lighting.
The additional infrastructure is expected to improve the general environment and facilities available to corps members during their orientation programme.
Commissioner Inspects Project
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Henry Omoyofunmi, recently inspected the ongoing projects at the NYSC camp.
The inspection provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the hostel construction and other infrastructure being provided at the camp.
The state government had earlier approved the hostel project as part of measures to improve accommodation facilities at the permanent orientation camp.
Project to Improve NYSC Camp Facilities
The 216-bed hostel project is expected to add to the accommodation capacity of the Ikare-Akoko orientation camp once completed.
The provision of street lights and other basic facilities is also part of the ongoing infrastructure work at the camp.
The project remains under construction, and further updates are expected as work progresses.
