Death Sentences: U.S Justice Department Announces It’s Readopting Firing Squad As A Means Of Execution

The U.S. Justice Department says it is taking steps to bring back and expand the use of the firing squad as a method of carrying out federal death sentences.

In a statement released Friday, the department explained that it is working to speed up federal capital punishment cases and restore policies introduced during Donald Trump’s first administration, which were later scaled back under President Joe Biden.

As part of the changes, the department said it is readopting the lethal injection protocol previously used and also expanding execution options to include methods such as firing squad. Officials also noted plans to streamline internal procedures to reduce delays in d+ath penalty cases and shorten the time between conviction and execution.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche defended the move, saying the previous administration failed to adequately enforce the death penalty against what he described as the most serious offenders, including terrorists, child murderers, and police killers. He said the current approach aims to strengthen justice for victims and ensure enforcement of the law.
