JUST-IN: Nigerian Army Disciplines Soldier Over Viral Allegations of Poor Feeding at Frontline Posts

The Nigerian Army has sanctioned a soldier serving under Operation Hadin Kai for sharing what it described as a misleading social media post alleging poor feeding of troops in the North-East.

In a statement on Saturday, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North-East, said the action followed an internal investigation into a viral image circulated online.

According to him, the photo did not represent the full ration issued to the soldier. “The images and narratives being circulated are misleading and do not reflect the actual feeding arrangements or welfare standards of troops,” the statement said.

Uba maintained that personnel deployed in the theatre are fed according to approved standards, with provisions sometimes enhanced during festive periods like Sallah and Easter to boost morale.

He explained that the feeding system is overseen by structured Food Committees made up of personnel across ranks and supervised by senior non-commissioned officers, ensuring transparency in menu planning, preparation, and distribution.

The Army said its findings confirmed “deliberate misrepresentation,” adding that disciplinary measures were applied in line with the Armed Forces Act to maintain order and integrity.

Despite operational and logistical challenges in the region, Uba reassured that troop welfare remains a priority. He also urged soldiers to use internal channels to address grievances rather than actions that could harm morale or misrepresent realities on ground.
