The Nkabinde Inquiry has rejected former NDPP Shamila Batohi’s bid to submit additional written evidence in the fitness probe of suspended South Gauteng DPP Andrew Chauke.

In a ruling today, Friday, the panel chaired by retired Justice Bess Nkabinde refused to admit the submission, calling it an attempt to introduce a “curated, untested, self-justifying narrative” after Batohi withdrew from cross-examination earlier.

The inquiry, established by President Ramaphosa in September 2025, is assessing whether Chauke remains fit to serve amid allegations around his conduct. Batohi had been a key witness but left testimony incomplete, drawing criticism.

Hearings have concluded, and the panel will now finalise its report. Chauke remains suspended on full pay. The ruling is expected to renew debate over NPA accountability and process integrity.
