BREAKING: OGTV Retiree, Security Guard Found Dead In Abeokuta
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of retired Ogun State Television, OGTV, broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” and her security guard at her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta.
The incident, which has thrown the media community and residents of Ogun State into mourning, was reported to the Owode Egba Police Division on Sunday after a resident of Iyana Agodo Village raised an alarm over suspicious activities at the deceased’s residence.
Police detectives who responded to the distress report discovered signs of forced entry and disturbance within the premises. During a search of the property, the corpse of the security guard was found inside the security post, while the body of Ms. Oyesiku was later discovered in her apartment. Her vehicle was also reported missing from the residence.
The tragic development initially generated widespread speculation, with reports alleging that unidentified gunmen had attacked and killed the former broadcaster.
However, the Ogun State Police Command has clarified that there is currently no evidence to support claims that the victims were shot, noting that no gunshot wounds were found on Ms. Oyesiku’s body.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, directing detectives and intelligence units to intensify efforts aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bringing those responsible to justice.
The Command says surveillance and intelligence-led operations have been expanded across relevant locations as part of ongoing efforts to track down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to members of the public and the media to refrain from circulating unverified reports or speculative accounts of the incident, stressing the need to allow investigators carry out their duties without hindrance.
The Ogun State Police Command also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ogun State Television family, and the wider media community, assuring that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is served.
