Police Nab Six Over Theft of 59 Computers, Other Equipment from Niger School

The Niger State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of computers and other equipment from the ICT centre of Martin Sanda Girls Day Science College in Paiko Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources said the incident was reported at about 1030 hours on June 21 by a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving at the school, who discovered that a window to the ICT room had been broken.

A subsequent inspection of the facility revealed that 59 computers, 57 keyboards, one lithium solar battery, one inverter and one current control panel had been stolen.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Paiko mobilised detectives to the scene and commenced an investigation.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives arrested six persons allegedly linked to the theft.

The suspects were identified as Adamu Hamisu, 30, an assistant contractor from Sundaba Street, Kuje, Abuja; Aminu Garba, 29, of Millionaires Quarters, Paiko; Abdul Hamid Mikailu, 29, a computer installer from New Quarters, Paiko; Idris Zakariya, 30, a voluntary staff member of the college; Ekene Asor Matthew, a serving corps member; and Abubakar Mohamed, 39, the school’s security guard.

Police authorities said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the theft and to recover the stolen items.
