Russian military-affiliated channels are reporting the downing or crash of a Kamov Ka-52 “Alligator” attack helicopter during combat operations in Ukraine, with both crew members perishing in the incident.

Pro-Russian Telegram channels, including “Voevoda Broadcasts” and others close to the Russian Aerospace Forces, broke the news on Thursday. They described the loss of the high-value rotary-wing aircraft and noted that the two experienced pilots did not survive. No official confirmation has come from the Russian Ministry of Defence, which has remained silent on the matter.

The exact circumstances and location remain unclear as of this reporting, though the timing aligns with ongoing intense fighting along the front lines, particularly in areas like Donetsk Oblast where Ukrainian forces have increasingly employed advanced FPV drones and air defense systems against Russian aviation.

The Ka-52, NATO reporting name “Hokum-B,” is one of Russia’s most advanced attack helicopters. It features a coaxial rotor system for enhanced maneuverability, a two-man crew, and heavy armament including anti-tank missiles, rockets, and a 30mm cannon. Priced at around $16 million per unit, it has been a cornerstone of Russian close air support in Ukraine.

However, the platform has suffered significant attrition since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. Open-source intelligence trackers like Oryx have documented dozens of confirmed Ka-52 losses destroyed, damaged, or abandoned, many attributed to Ukrainian MANPADS, ground fire, and increasingly sophisticated drone strikes.
