Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has stirred fresh debate on marriage, fidelity, and cultural values, insisting that in much of Sub-Saharan Africa, a husband cannot be said to be “cheating” by pursuing another relationship, provided the union allows polygamy.

Writing on his official X page, Omokri argued that in societies where polygamy is legal and culturally accepted, accusations of cheating only apply if a man engages in sexual relations with another woman before formalizing marriage to her through recognized legal and cultural processes.

He dismissed the Western notion of “boyfriend and girlfriend cheating,” describing it as “a ridiculous low street culture” that many African women have wrongly adopted. According to him, cheating exists only within marriage, not casual relationships, which he said are “by nature immoral.”
