Among those, one experienced figure was allowed to move on after years of service at the Etihad.

City had planned for a respectful exit, one that would honour his past contributions while also recognising that the squad needed to evolve.

European clubs were alerted, and opportunities arose for the midfielder to take on a new challenge before the market closed.

What has now emerged, as per a report from Tuttomercatoweb, is that Juventus were one of the clubs that had the chance to make a deal.

The Italian giants, however, decided not to take it further. With their midfield already packed, they preferred to strengthen other areas instead of adding more depth in the centre of the pitch.

That decision opened the door for another club to step in. It was Galatasaray who took full advantage.

They moved swiftly in the final days of the window to bring in Ilkay Gundogan, sealing his free transfer after his time with City came to an end.

For the 34-year-old, the move carried extra meaning. The Turkish side were offering both Champions League football and a return to his roots.

Juventus may not regret their decision, but Galatasaray acted decisively. Registration before the UEFA deadline was a key factor, and they ensured Gundogan would be available for Europe.
