Israel- Iran War: Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi Reaffirms Commitment to Self-Defense, Dismisses Nuclear Weapons Pursuit

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abbas Araghchi, has issued a strongly worded statement defending Tehran’s recent actions and warning against further escalation by the Israeli government.

In the address, Dr. Araghchi stated that Iran is acting purely in self-defense, responding only to what he described as “brutal aggression” against the Iranian people. He clarified that retaliatory measures have been directed solely at the Israeli regime, not at nations that support it.

Just as Netanyahu launched this war to sabotage diplomacy, the international community must remain vigilant against attempts by the weakened Israeli regime to draw others into the conflict and expand the flames of war beyond the region,” Araghchi said.

Addressing concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s longstanding position, asserting that the country has never pursued nuclear weapons and has consistently adhered to its public commitments.

If there were ever a justification for acquiring such weapons, Israel’s current aggression—by the only nuclear-armed state in the region—would be it. Yet, we remain steadfast in our rejection of these inhumane arms,” he emphasized.

The minister also reaffirmed Iran’s right to defend itself, vowing that Tehran would respond decisively to continued hostilities.

Iran will exercise its right to self-defense with honor and determination. The aggressors will regret their grave miscalculation,” he warned.

Concluding his remarks, Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s openness to diplomacy—with one exception.

Apart from the illegitimate, occupying, and genocidal Israeli regime, Iran remains committed to diplomatic engagement,” he stated.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with international actors urging restraint and renewed dialogue to avoid broader conflict.
