EFCC Arrests Benue Governor’s Aide Over Alleged Sextortion, Cyberbullying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Documentation, Research and Planning, over allegations of sextortion and cyberbullying.

Dr. Aondona was apprehended on Friday, June 20, by operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Command, following a petition filed by multiple female students who accused him of abuse of office and sexual exploitation.

According to the petition, the students alleged that Aondona used his official position to recruit young, slim female students for ushering duties under the guise of legitimate employment, but later demanded sexual favours as a precondition for participation.

The complainants further claimed that the aide secretly recorded the sexual encounters without consent and later used the footage to threaten and blackmail them into continued compliance.

“He told me that if I refused his demands, he would leak the videos,” one of the victims reportedly told investigators.

Some of the videos are already said to be circulating across messaging platforms, raising concerns about the privacy and safety of the victims involved.

Confirming the arrest, the EFCC said in a statement that Dr. Aondona remains in custody and will be formally charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

“We take allegations of sextortion very seriously and are committed to ensuring that justice is served,” a spokesperson for the Commission said.

Efforts to reach the Benue State Government for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
