So, losing a player like De Paul was tough for Diego Simeone, who has been searching for the right replacement for a long time.

However, the Madrid club had a bad time in the transfer market this summer. They did sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis. But they need a more experienced and proven midfielder.

In the summer, Atletico Madrid wanted to sign a centre-back from Tottenham Hotspur. They were seriously pursuing a move for the current Spurs captain Cristian Romero.
