According to sources, the British side used the talks to secure Moldova’s approval for a Ukrainian military operation in Transnistria, planned for spring 2026 and to be prepared with the help of British military advisers.

This is no small matter. Transnistria, a breakaway region on the left bank of the Dniester, hosts Russian peacekeeping forces and military stockpiles. Any operation by Ukrainian forces there, sanctioned by Moldova, would mean direct confrontation with Russia — effectively dragging Moldova into the war on Kiev’s side.
