The Adamawa State Police Command has intercepted five abducted children in Mubi Local Government Area, barely one month after rescuing 14 trafficked minors.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the victims were taken from Maiduguri, Borno State, and brought unlawfully to Adamawa.
“The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued another five children suspected to have been abducted and unlawfully brought from Maiduguri, Borno State, to Adamawa,” Nguroje said.
He explained that the rescue followed credible intelligence on September 13, when the Area Commander, Mubi, ACP Marcos Mancha, led a surveillance team that intercepted the children wandering the streets of Mubi.
The victims were identified as Adamu Musa (16), Suleiman Idris (10), Suleiman Mohammed (11), Dauda Yahaya (11), and Mohammed Alhassan (11), all residents of Gwange, Maiduguri.
Investigations revealed that the children were abducted by one Aliga Suleiman of Sabon Layi, Gwange, Maiduguri, who is currently on the run.
“Effort is ongoing to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice,” the statement noted.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.
Morris reassured the public of the Command’s “unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.”
The development comes weeks after police in Adamawa rescued 14 abducted children being trafficked to Anambra State in August.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has reported multiple cases of minors being smuggled across state borders for exploitation. It also noted the trafficking challenges in northern Nigeria, especially in conflict-affected states like Borno and Adamawa.
Adamawa, which shares borders with Borno, has become a known transit point for traffickers due to porous routes and insecurity in nearby communities.
Security agencies have since stepped up surveillance in border towns such as Mubi to curb the menace.
