Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a legal threat to Uche Ekwunife, a former senator and current deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over an allegation of infidelity.

In a widely circulated video, Ekwunife claimed that both Governor Soludo and his wife were involved in the administration of late Chinwoke Mbadinuju, who governed Anambra from 1999 to 2003.

She further alleged that Mbadinuju’s administration failed the people of Anambra.

Reacting in a statement released on Saturday, Nonye Soludo accused Ekwunife of peddling “malicious claims” against her family. She warned that unless the statements were retracted within 72 hours, legal proceedings would follow.

While refusing to “descend” to what she called Ekwunife’s “fabricated” allegations, the governor’s wife challenged her to provide evidence.

She said her breaking point came when her children were dragged into what she described as a political war, interpreting the comments as a calculated effort to cause harm.

“For starters, let me repeat three verifiable facts. One, I have never worked for anyone in my life. I have been a professional and an entrepreneur all my adult life. Two, I never met Dr Mbadinuju of blessed memory in my life. Three, in my 55 years on planet earth, I have known only one man, Chukwuma Soludo,” she said.

She noted that she had been advised to ignore Ekwunife, adding, “Many urged me to ignore Uche Ekwunife because she has a reputation for targeting the families of male opponents.”

Insisting that her response would remain rooted in “decency, character and grace”, Soludo’s wife said she was ready for a prolonged confrontation: “a long-distance marathon” against the former senator.

She also described herself as someone who had always led a private life and had no interest in politics due to what she called the “shameless obscenities” it entails.

“I have never depended on public funds, and I do not have any budget as first lady of Anambra,” she said.
“I have known only one man, Chukwuma Soludo, whom I married as a virgin, and I remain faithful after 33 years of marriage.”

To back her stance, she issued a public challenge to Ekwunife, asking that both of them take a religious oath before the Catholic Church.

“Since she claims to be a converted Catholic, I challenge her and both of us to swear an oath of fidelity and chastity at any cathedral in front of the Blessed Sacrament,” she said.
“I will also swear with my children that I have known only one man —Chukwuma Soludo.”
She went further, proposing DNA tests for both families to be conducted at three hospitals in London, offering to cover all expenses.

“As a businesswoman, I will pay for your and your family’s travels as well as the tests,” she said.
“If the results confirm your husband is the father of all your children, I will congratulate you with a cash award.”

Nonye Soludo also dismissed Ekwunife’s comments about the governor as “laughable outbursts of frustration”, insisting that her husband was “too clean and too sophisticated” to engage with such accusations.
