In a statement released on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, asserted that criminal activity in the country “has no religious or ethnic colour,” emphasizing that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of attacks by terrorists and bandits.

Referencing recent incidents, Akintola highlighted that on September 15, gunmen abducted 40 Muslims from a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

On the same day, Rev. Father Wilfred Ezemba, a Catholic priest in Kogi State, was also kidnapped.

“These two sad incidents underline the fact that terrorists and bandits target no particular religion or ethnic group. What they are after is ransom. Terror has no faith, and crime has no colour,” he stated.

Akintola further pointed to past mass killings of Muslims in Sokoto, Katsina, and other areas, which he said expose the “false narratives” of Islamisation.

MURIC condemned those who link acts of terror to religious agendas, describing them as “anarchists, alarmists, and entrepreneurs of falsehood,” and urged Nigerians not to be swayed by “divisive rhetoric.”
