Arase, the 18th indigenous Inspector-General, was remembered by the Force as a leader who served with “dedication and honour” and would be celebrated for his “exemplary and innovative leadership, philanthropy and commitment to police reforms.”

According to the programme released on Wednesday, September 17, through the Force’s official social media platforms, activities will begin with a Day of Tribute on Wednesday, September 24, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.

This will be followed by a Requiem Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, September 26.

The Lying in State will hold on Saturday, September 27, at his residence in Golfview Estate, Maitama, Abuja, while the Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, October 3, at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State.

His remains will thereafter be taken for a private interment at his GRA home in Benin City. Rounding off the rites, a Thanksgiving Mass will be conducted on Sunday, October 5, at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City.

Arase, who retired in 2016, is fondly remembered for introducing reforms in community policing, strengthening intelligence-led operations, and improving the welfare of officers.
