The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Wasiu Oloyede, the suspected leader of a notorious kidnapping gang, who was apprehended on Sunday following a failed attempt to impersonate a soldier.
Oloyede and his gang had reportedly kidnapped a military officer on Friday in the Alagbado area of Lagos State. The abductors dispossessed the victim of his uniform, military ID card, ATM cards, and mobile phone. The soldier, however, managed to escape from captivity.
In a desperate move to evade detection, Oloyede allegedly donned the stolen military uniform and attempted to deceive and disarm a local vigilante member in Ogun State. His plan to steal the vigilante’s dane gun backfired, leading to his arrest.
Police say the suspect is now in custody and will face prosecution after the conclusion of investigations. The remaining members of the gang are still at large, and a manhunt has been launched.
