According to sources, the issue of state police is expected to take centre stage in the meeting, as this is the first NEC meeting since President Bola Tinubu renewed calls for decentralised policing to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

The session, which began at 11:30 am in the council chambers of the State House, Abuja, opened with prayers led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, before participants moved into a closed-door meeting.

The NEC, a constitutional advisory body chaired by the Vice-President, comprises the 36 state governors, the Central Bank of Nogeria governor, and key ministers.
