Greek-Flagged Tanker Maran Homer Hit by Suspected Drone or Missile in Black Sea

A Greek-flagged Suezmax oil tanker, Maran Homer, was struck by an unidentified object—suspected to be a missile or drone—early Saturday in the Black Sea.

The vessel was sailing about 14 nautical miles from Novorossiysk, near the terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium when the incident occurred.

The tanker, managed by Maran Tankers Management, was travelling in ballast from Thessaloniki to load Kazakh crude oil. The cargo had been chartered by Chevron.

According to maritime reports, the impact caused minor damage to the starboard side and deck of the vessel.However, no oil spill or environmental pollution was recorded.

All 24 crew members on board—comprising 10 Greeks, 13 Filipinos and one Romanian—were reported safe and uninjured.

The tanker did not request emergency assistance and was able to continue operations following the incident.
