A poignant account has emerged detailing a reported conversation between Ali Larijani and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, shortly before the latter’s martyrdom, highlighting the spiritual and moral resolve behind Iran’s leadership during a period of intense threat.

According to the report, Larijani approached Khamenei with a grave assessment of imminent danger, warning that enemy forces had made plans to kill the Leader despite any defenses.

He proposed a fortified, hidden location—a place safe from missiles and aircraft—as a temporary measure.

Khamenei, however, refused to disappear, reflecting on the responsibilities of leadership and the moral implications of fleeing while his nation and soldiers faced danger.

He reportedly told Larijani:
“How can I ask a soldier to face death if his commander disappears? How can I tell the people to stand firm… if I am the first to leave the field of danger?”
Invoking the memory of Imam Hussein, Khamenei drew a spiritual parallel:
“We are the sons of a man named Hussein ibn Ali — the Imam who knew his fate and still walked toward it as one walks toward God’s promise.

He did not disappear because his army was small — for he had a greater army in the heavens.”

Larijani cited the example of the Hidden Imam, whose absence sometimes represented wisdom.

Khamenei distinguished between disappearing as a lone figure versus a leader with a nation and army, emphasizing the weight of historical accountability.

He concluded, according to the account, that the choice to remain in place was not denial of danger but a deeper understanding of leadership:
“Some leaders, when they disappear from death, may also disappear from the memory of their nation.”

After the discussion, Khamenei reportedly informed his family about a safe location, but they affirmed their solidarity: “We are wherever you are.”
The account underscores the intertwining of spiritual conviction, moral responsibility, and historical awareness in the leadership decisions of Ayatollah Khamenei during periods of existential threat.See more, details. .
