BREAKING: Pete Hegseth Is Facing The Loudest Calls Yet To Resign As Defense Secretary
On February 28, a US Tomahawk missile struck Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, southern Iran, on the first day of operations. Over 100 children were killed.
A preliminary Pentagon investigation found the strike was likely based on outdated intelligence.
120 members of Congress have now signed a letter demanding answers. Senators, intelligence committee members, and former military officers are calling for his resignation. On betting markets, the probability of Hegseth leaving office before end of 2026 jumped to 43%.
The backdrop makes it worse. Hegseth had dissolved the Pentagon’s civilian harm mitigation program, fired the military’s top legal advisers, and declared “no stupid rules of engagement.” The school was the first casualty of that doctrine.
