BREAKING: U.S. Deploys 48 F-35A Stealth Fighters to Misawa to Counter China’s Growing Threat in the Indo-Pacific

F-35A Lightning II aircraft from the 13th Fighter Squadron arrived at Misawa Air Base in northern Japan This initiates the permanent basing of approximately 48 F-35A fifth-generation stealth fighters at the base, operated under the 35th Fighter Wing.

The F-35As will replace the base’s current fleet of 36 older F-16 Fighting Falcons (likely F-16CJs in the Wild Weasel role for suppressing enemy air defenses

U.S. officials have described it as bolstering regional deterrence and improving response capabilities in the Indo-Pacific.
