Man Faces Trial For Assaulting Police Officer in Ekiti.

A 35-year-old man, Tobi Sunday, yesterday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obstructing a police officer in the performance of his lawful duty.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault.

The police prosecutor, ASP Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 30 at about 9.00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

He alleged that the defendant assaulted and obstructed Insp Andah Mohammed while discharging his lawful duty.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Osuolale said the offence contravened Sections 187(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The counsel to the defendant, Mrs Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant him bail and assured the chief magistrate that the defendant would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Ms Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
