PHOTOS: Rain Wrecks Havoc, Destroys Public Schools In Oyo
Reports reaching DAILY POST from Ogbomoso geopolitical zone in Oyo State indicate that properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in some public schools in the zone.
According to DAILY POST gathered that the destruction was as a result of heavy rain.
The incident occured Tuesday evening.
Our correspondent reports that there are five local government areas in the zone. The local government areas are Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Surulere and Ogo Oluwa local government areas.
Ondopress learnt that many public secondary schools in the zone were hit with blown roofs, collapsed classrooms walls, damaged ceilings, blown food vendors sheds and broken electric poles.
Some of the affected schools are: Emmanuel Agboola Baptist Grammar School, Laogun Adeoye Memorial High School, Muslim Comprehensive High School, Molete Community High School and Methodist Secondary Grammar School.
Others are: Baptist Grammar School Susnsun, Baptist Comprehensive High School, Muslim Grammar School, Ogbomoso Baptist High School, Government Technical College and Millennium Model Secondary High School.
A teacher in one of the affected schools, who spoke on Thursday, narrated that the rain destroyed some properties in the school.
The teacher who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “We have awaited commencement of rain but when it came on Tuesday evening it poured with fury.
“The school l am working in is seriously affected as are many others. It is devastating. Government needs to come to the aid of the school”.
A resident of Ogbomoso identified as Mamoru Adesina, who spoke on Thursday, noted that the incident may affect learning and studying in the schools when the students resume later this month.

He used the opportunity to call on the state government to do the needful before the school resumption.
“However, assistance doesn’t normally come and if it will it may take a long time.
“If schools resume now later in April, that will be a serious problem, because facilities have become reduced and will affect teaching and learning.
“In some schools also, like Emmanuel Agboola Baptist Grammar School, their exam hall has partly collapsed.
“Ironically, it is public schools that are majorly affected, does that not tell of the quality of work being done by the so-called government contractors who built some of the facilities?” He queried.
